On May 23, we received a telephone call from Rev. Barry Dawson, senior pastor of the Tokyo Union Church in Japan. (Barry and his wife, Shelly, were at the American Church in Paris for 2 1/2 months when we were ministering there. Barry then accepted the position of senior pastor at the Tokyo Union Church in March of '07.) The associate pastor at the TUC had left, and Barry asked John to consider being interim associate pastor for 4 months, beginning ASAP.... Thus with travel arrangements worked out, we left Holland, MI, on June 23, 2008, with a return date of October 29, 2008., However tucked "in between" was a trip back to Holland to host our daughter, Leslie and her family from Australia, who had scheduled a visit July 30-Aug. 14. There was no way we were going to be gone during this time, so from July 29-Aug. 19, we were back in Holland, and then back to Tokyo until the end of October.
Thus another wonderful opportunity was given to us to travel to another country, and culture, and see what God had in mind for us while there!
